Meet Tanya Lee, Founder of Emperor Coaching
Tanya believes that it’s all about the people. The potential of the business is reliant on releasing the passion and potential of people. She has worked in large multinational organisations at a senior level, but realised as a director she had three main responsibilities:
- Strategy and Vision
- People Development
- Chief “brown stuff” deflector
Her passion was in developing people to think BIG, follow their purpose, and create impactful lives through positive change and in 2019 after a long career at a senior leadership level, she took a year out to reflect, study for some additional qualifications and launch Emperor Coaching.

Why Emperor Coaching?
After lots of back and forth about what to call the business, the name came to me on a beach walk in Tenerife with a close friend. She joked about my nickname – Penguin – and then said, “What about Emperor Coaching?” It landed. It just felt right.
The more I sat with it, the more it made sense. Emperor penguins are resilient, team-focused, and quietly powerful. They survive the harshest conditions by leaning on each other—literally—taking turns on the edge and in the centre, ensuring everyone gets a break and no one’s left behind. That sense of collective care, leadership, and emotional endurance is exactly what I see in coaching at its best.
They also know how to navigate long, tough journeys and still come back stronger—just like the path of personal and professional growth. And when it comes to nurturing their young, emperor penguins are deeply invested—patient, protective, and intentional. That echoes the role of a great leader, mentor, or coach: creating space for others to grow, even in tough conditions.
There’s also something in the Emperor’s New Clothes story – the courage to be authentic and speak the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable – that’s at the heart of transformational coaching.
. That’s how Emperor Coaching was hatched.
